Oxymoron?

Two posts in one day. I know, but I couldn't pass this up and was afraid I'd forget.

Perusing the Houston Chronicle, I was reading an article on Houston finally approving a SuperShuttle agreement when I came across the following quote:

"Houston, one of the only large cities in the country without the service"

Doubletake!!

If it is one of "the only" large city (I know - it says 'cities', but how can you have 'the only' be plural?), then how can there be more than enough for Houston to be "one of"? Should it not be something like "one of only a few"?

Okay, being from rural Louisiana puts me at a disadvantage...what's a Super Shuttle? And would it be any safer than the MetroRail seems to be?

Actually, SuperShuttle is a really good thing for a large city airport to have. It's kind of a glorified cab/van service where several people essentially share the cost of the ride to their destination once they arrive at the airport.

For example, if the traditional cab ride would cost about $40 (which is not too outrageous to expect from Intercontinental to downtown Houston), SuperShuttle would probably cost about $25-30. There might be several people sharing the ride with you, or you might have the shuttle to yourself. The driver might make several stops along the way and pick up or drop off other riders, so it might take a bit longer to get to your destination. However, the difference in cost is usually worth the delay.

Now, as to whether it's safer than MetroRail? *sigh* How do you feel about riding in cabs in general? Sometimes I am able to watch the scenery go by. Others lead to white knuckles and adding a few gray hairs to this head of mine. *chuckle*
